The Clothes-On Revolution

By Geoff Dakin

Hello again, Geoff Dakin here, founder of Alignment First Inc. and creator of the Alignment First Protocol. Today, I want to share a story about how a simple, yet significant problem turned into a game-changing advantage in the way I treat my patients.

Back in the mid-nineties, my youngest sister started experiencing severe back pain. Naturally, I wanted to help her, but she was hesitant. One day, I asked her why she hadn’t come to me sooner. Her response caught me off guard and made me chuckle: “I don’t want to get naked in front of my brother!”

It was a lightbulb moment for me. Traditional therapy methods often require patients to disrobe, which can create a sense of vulnerability and discomfort. For my sister, and many others, this was a barrier to seeking the help they needed.

Determined to find a solution, I assured her that she wouldn’t have to remove her clothes for me to help her. She looked at me skeptically but agreed to give it a try. So there we were, her fully dressed, and me ready to work my magic. To our relief, the session went smoothly, and she experienced significant relief from her back pain.

This experience made me realize that the traditional approach wasn’t necessary. I could effectively treat my patients without them having to disrobe. This realization was a game-changer. Since then, I have been working on all my patients through their clothes, a practice that has remained a cornerstone of my method ever since.

The benefits of this approach are numerous. First and foremost, it eliminates the awkwardness and vulnerability that come with being naked under a sheet. Patients feel more comfortable and relaxed, which positively impacts their overall treatment experience.

Additionally, it saves time. There’s no need to wait for patients to undress and redress, allowing us to focus more on the treatment itself. It also simplifies the process of reassessing after any therapeutic intervention. And when it comes to exercises, patients find it much easier and less stressful when nakedness is a nonissue. Changing positions on the treatment table is smoother and more efficient, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the therapy.

Incorporating this practice into my work has made a significant difference, not just in terms of convenience but also in creating a more comfortable and welcoming environment for my patients. It’s a change inspired by my sister’s simple but honest concern, and it has shaped the way I approach therapy to this day.

So, if you’re hesitant to seek help because of the discomfort associated with traditional therapy methods, rest assured that with the Alignment First Protocol, you can keep your clothes on and still receive world-class care.

Thank you for letting me share this story with you. Remember, sometimes the smallest adjustments can lead to the biggest changes.
